Vintage holiday collectibles
March 30th, 2017
Antique shops love finding and selling vintage decorations, especially when they’re holiday related. There are decorations to be found for every holiday and season of the year: New Year’s, Valentine’s, Easter, the Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc.
It may or may not be a surprise to you that Christmas decorations are the most plentiful and also comprise the most categories to search for! People can collect ornaments, tree toppers, snowmen, Santa figurines, angels, candles, novelties, noisemakers, candy containers…the Christmas holiday alone has endless possibilities.
Current trends in Christmas collectibles include 1960s aluminum trees with color wheel lights and table-top lighted ceramic trees. The hardest Christmas items to find are from the Victorian Era (circa 1900), Santa figurines made about 125 years ago, and German or Japanese paper houses with glitter and feather trees.
Unlike Christmas decorations, antique Halloween decorations are rare and therefore have some of the highest values. We have see Halloween postcards from the early 1900s which, in excellent condition, can be sold for $20.00+. Give us a call or stop by the store and check out our vintage holiday decorations for Easter and other holidays. It’s never too early to start preparing!
